Variable message sign installed at Eight Mile

Motorists can now see a new permanent fixture along the Cunningham Highway, with the Department of Transport and Main Roads last week officially switching on an electronic message board on the Warwick side of the Eight Mile intersection.
Minister for Main Roads Craig Wallace said the Variable Message Sign (VMS) would provide information about any delays and hazards on the road network ahead to help drivers plan their trips.
“The Eight Mile is a significant intersection for people driving to south east Queensland and the sign will play an important role in the traffic management of the New England Highway and Cunningham’s Gap,” Mr Wallace said.
“With a glance at the VMS, travellers will be informed if there are problems on these roads, giving people the choice to use an alternative route to minimise delays.
“We will use the VMS to pass on accurate, reliable and timely travel information to motorists and we thank the community for their patience in the installation of the VMS.”
The $450,000 project was delivered by the department in conjunction with RoadTek.
