Regional fire honour

The Inglewood SES crew has been named the South West Region Group of the Year.

CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the Inglewood SES Group, named South West Region Group of the Year at a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services awards ceremony in Toowoomba on 26 October.
The Inglewood SES Group has developed into a very strong community volunteer emergency service in recent years, with a current membership base of 30 volunteers.
Volunteers respond to many different types of emergency incidents such as conducting land search and rescues, traffic control at major road accidents, storm damage operations and providing flood boat support during severe weather events within the town and district of Inglewood.
The group has also completed training with the RFSQ in ground operational support of aerial firefighting during large bushfire events.
Goondiwindi Regional Council deputy mayor Rick Kearney thanked the group for their contribution, effort and dedication.
“Our SES Groups are an integral part of the local community and provide for essential support services during emergency and disaster events,” Cr Kearney said.
The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer organisation that provides a valuable service to the community.
Under the motto “Be Prepared”, the basic concept of the SES is to encourage self-help and mutual assistance within each community.
SES Volunteers do not receive payment.
The rewards of joining a local SES group include learning new skills, keeping fit, forming new friendships, gaining valuable qualifications, earning respect within the community, having fun and being active as part of a team.
For further information on becoming a volunteer in the SES, contact Ann McGlashan, local controller of the Goondiwindi Regional SES Unit, on 0429 870 810.
