WARWICK‘S festive season got off to a show-stopping start on Saturday as the chamber of commerce launched its new Christmas parade.
Bands, community groups, schoolchildren and Christmas characters, including Santa himself, cut a colourful display as they spread festive cheer up and down Palmerin Street.
Southern Downs Regional Council mayor Peter Blundell said he was pleased to see the new event on the local Christmas calendar and congratulated the Warwick Chamber of Commerce on the initiative.
“From the chamber‘s perspective, there is nothing more inspiring than seeing your city centre alive, bustling and embracing the festive season,“ Cr Blundell said last week.
Rose City Shoppingworld centre manager Jason Gard said the day went really well.
“The shopping centre definitely saw a spike in the number of people coming into the centre and retailers reported a great day,“ he said.
“I hope some of the other retailers down the main street also saw some benefit out of it – I‘d be surprised if they didn‘t.“
