Fines on the way

RESIDENTS found breaching tighter water restrictions could be hit with a fine after a council director signaled his intent to hire a private enforcer.
Southern Downs Regional Council director engineering services Peter See foreshadowed the move at the 24 November council meeting.
“Our staff will become incredibility unpopular fining people,” he said.
Council has resolved to conduct an extensive advertising campaign to alert residents to the high level restrictions.
It has also indicated it will take a no-nonsense approach to people found watering outside 6pm to 7pm schedules.
Without significant rain, Storm King Dam could be empty within a year, Mr See said.
