Leyburn tickets now available on the internet

Fans of the annual Leyburn Sprints for historic and classic cars can get in early to organise their visit to this year’s event on August 27-28 with tickets now on sale on the internet for the first time.
Available via the official website leyburnmotorsprints.com.au adults tickets cost $15 for each day or $25 for both days. Children under 14 will be admitted free.
The time trials on Leyburn’s one-kilometre, round-the-houses course will be the 16th annual celebration of the 1949 Australian Grand Prix, which was staged on an ex-wartime airstrip near the little Darling Downs town.
The sprints attract up to 7000 spectators each year.
About 200 cars ranging in vintage from the 1920s to current-day are expected to compete from 8am each day. Entry applications close on July 28.
Leyburn Sprints president Ann Collins said the new online ticket facility would suit many spectators who preferred to finalise their plans before leaving home.
“People can buy their ticket with a credit card then print it on their own computer immediately. They won’t have to wait for the post to deliver it and they won’t have to stand in queues when they get to Leyburn,” Mrs Collins said.
This year’s sprints will see competitors – including several celebrity drivers – complete up to seven timed runs, ensuring non-stop entertainment for spectators.
Off-track attractions will be headed by an expanded Shannons Show ’n’ Shine, with trophies awarded in 14 categories and a new, bigger location opposite the start-finish line.
There will also be market stalls, a variety of food and drink outlets, car club displays and up to 50 trade booths.
Proceeds from the not-for-profit Leyburn Sprints are used to benefit local community organisations and projects.
