Killarney Heritage Centre to relocate

By DANE LILLINGSTONE

THE Killarney Heritage Centre will be moving into the heritage-listed former bank premises on Willow Street after resounding support from the community with scores of people turning up to a local meeting.
President Tony Pearson has been vocal about the need to relocate away from the Condamine River for fear of flooding. He believes the move will now allow the centre to grow and prosper despite the increased cost of rent.
The meeting held this previous Saturday was enough to get the ball rolling.
“On Saturday we had over 50 people turn up, including the mayor and four councillors. I was shocked,” Mr Pearson said.
For a town of only 800 people, to get over 50 people to a meeting is quite impressive.
Mr Pearson believes the move will encourage more people to donate to the centre.
“We are moving into the old bank, hopefully by the end of the week. We are just trying to get more donations,” he said.
The Killarney and District Historical Society is run by volunteers and survives on donations.
