New councillors warmly welcomed

Mayor-elect Tracy Dobie and her husband Colin relax ahead of the official swearing in on Wednesday.

THE staff and management of Southern Downs Regional Council have congratulated the new Southern Downs Regional Council team after it was confirmed by the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) yesterday.
The new look council will include mayor Tracy Dobie, along with past councillors Jo McNally, Cameron Gow, Neil Meiklejohn and Vic Pennisi, who will be joined by new councillors Rod Kelly, Yve Stocks, Sheryl Windle and Marika McNichol.
Southern Downs Regional Council’s chief executive officer David Keenan congratulated the new council.
“On behalf of the management and staff of Southern Downs Regional Council, I would like to congratulate Mayor Dobie and councillors on their successful election to the council for the 2016 term,” Mr Keenan said.
“We welcome back councillors McNally, Meiklejohn, Gow and Pennisi and look forward to getting to know our new councillors Kelly, Stocks, Windle and McNichol,” he said.
A formal swearing in ceremony for the mayor and councillors will take place at the council’s first statutory meeting on Wednesday 6 April, at 9am, in the Warwick Council Chambers. In accordance with section 175 of the Local Government Act 2009 and Section 5.2 of Council’s Code of Meeting Practice Policy, the election of the deputy mayor will occur at the first statutory meeting of the new council.
Once the council has been sworn in, nominations will be called from the elected members for the position of deputy mayor.
Councillors may nominate themselves or another councillor for the position of deputy mayor. Voting must be by a show of hand, and may not be by secret ballot.
