MORE than a hundred riders will take to the Morgan Park Raceway at Warwick this weekend for round two of the Southern Downs Road Race Series.
Quality riders in all of the classes have nominated for this round of the five-round series, and with points on the board from round one the class leaders will be looking to assert their authority, while the rest of the field aims to take over at the top.
A good result here can go a long way toward a good result for the season, but consistency is important, a low points haul can make the rest of the season an uphill battle.
Formula Three leader Chris Dunster will be out to press home his advantage.
The ladies and gentlemen competing in the Formula Three and Sidecar classes will also be chasing Queensland Road Race Championships point, so expect them to be bringing their A game.
“There is nothing like having a state title on the line to encourage a rider to do their best,” said event PR Simon Dickson, of organisers The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland.
Classes competing at round two include, Formula 1 (Superbikes), Formula 2 (Supersport), Formula 3 (400cc and twin sport), Formula 4 (Up to 500cc, pre 1995), Formula 6 (Over 500cc, pre 2000), Moto3/125GP, 250/300 Production, Supermoto, Sidecar, Club Racer (introductory class, open to all bikes).
Simon said the classes on offer at round two give riders of a wide variety of machinery types and an opportunity to test their mettle on track.
“The Club Racer class has a good contingent of new faces this round, many of them will make their way into the championship classes as the season continues,” he said.
“The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland enable riders to take the first steps to becoming racers with first time race for free offer, which will be run at all five rounds of the Pirelli Southern Downs Road Race Series.
“If you think you have what it takes, come out and talk to the officials or riders to see if racing interests you.
“Spectator entry is free, so jump in the car or hop on a bike and drop out to Morgan Park Raceway.
“You are welcome to walk around the pits and meet the guys and girls that have a passion for racing.
“There is a canteen on site with great value food. Qualifying kicks off at 9am on Saturday morning, while racing commences after lunch, ending around 4pm. Sunday is racing all day from 8.30am till 4pm. See you out there.”
