SOUTHERN Downs students were among more than 400 senior high schoolers who visited USQ Toowoomba on Friday.
Year 11 and 12 high school students from across the Darling Downs and interstate participated in academic taster sessions that were tailored to study or career interests.
Topics covered on the day included what university life is like, what you can study at USQ and the benefits of pursuing a tertiary education.
Toowoomba Year 11 student Israel Escano is keen to pursue a career in biomedicine when he finishes high school.
“For me, this is a very worthwhile event as I am looking at going to university,” Mr Escano from Christian Outreach College said.
“I am not sure about specialisation yet, but looking at commencing my studies with a Biomedical Science degree here at USQ.”
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Jan Thomas welcomed the students to USQ Toowoomba.
“Moving from high school to university can be a big step, and events like USQ Student Experience Day give students the opportunity to have their questions answered,” Professor Thomas said.
“The students want to know how university is different to high school, the benefits of a degree and what to expect at USQ.
“We want to help them by providing a chance to experience different areas of study and discover what life is like as a university student.
“We hope the students visiting see that our university has a welcoming and supportive environment.”
