Learning Centre marks White Balloon Day

Students at Warwick’s ABC Learning Centre in Wood Street learnt that child sexual assault is not acceptable and there are adults available to talk to.
The centre held a White Balloon Day last week as part of Child Protection Week, September 5-11, to inform children about the issue.
A number of fun activities were held throughout the day to highlight the issue.
“We did it last year as well. Our industry is children so it makes sense to support things that protect children,” 2IC Donna Murphy said.
“We let them know we are here for them and that they needed to work out who in their life they can trust and talk to,” Mrs Murphy said.
“Every child has a right to have their innocence maintained and not be violated and have the right to say no if they feel uncomfortable,” she said.
“It’s up to us to give them the power to talk to someone.”
In Australia, 59,000 children are sexually assaulted every year, with an estimated one in five children sexually assaulted before their 18th birthday.
