Carols a hit

What an incredibly successful night it was at Warwick’s Carols in the Park. An estimated crowd of 4,000 converged on Leslie Park to soak up the Christmas spirit and community goodwill.
Through the generous support of sponsors, community groups and performers a first class event was presented.  Organisers sincerely appreciate the long-term commitment of sponsors and in 2011 our thanks go to the Warwick Credit Union, Ergon Energy, Campbell Page, Condamine Plumbing & Drainage, CFM, APN Print and the Daily News. Without their generosity we would not be able to put on such a showcase of talent.
The excellent media coverage leading up to the Carols evening by the Daily News, CFM and other local media, guaranteed a large and enthusiastic crowd. The 2011 Carols songbook is a ‘must have’ for the evening and special thanks to the print team for the professional design work on the songbook and print advertising.
On behalf of the community I extend a big thank-you to the talented performers who entertained us so well. The band, along with crowd favourites Melissa Williams, Erin Hilton, Jenny McDonald, Phillip Vellacott and Peter Blundell were joined by a talented group of youngsters who will no doubt star at many community events in the future.  Well done to Keely, Katie, Lucy and the junior choir.
This year we were delighted to have Pangea Music excite the crowd with marimbas and their percussion instruments, along with Mr E’s mass choir to open the show.  I sincerely thank all performers for giving up their time to practice and entertain us.
Thanks also to young MC James Clarke for a great job and David deVito for making a return guest appearance at this year’s Carols.
A great amount of effort went on behind the scenes to make the night a success – the Lions and Rotary Clubs do a mighty job to cater to such a large crowd.
Amy Lee added a little Christmas magic to the night with face-painting for the children and our thanks to Santa and the Warwick Fire Service for his ride.
Congratulations to Tracy Vellacott and Shona Gibson together with John Newley and the Parks Department, who ensure Leslie Park is in perfect condition before and after the event.
Well done to all in the community who enjoyed the Christmas spirit on Sunday evening.  On behalf of Council I wish all residents and visitors a safe and happy Christmas.

Ron R Bellingham,
Mayor
