If you can’t find something of interest at the 2012 Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival, there must be something wrong with you!
Held from March 2-4, there are plenty of events to keep you entertained, whether you’re a child or an adult, interested in novelty events, sport, art, wine, food, rides, music or anything else you can think of.
Festival committee president Keith Barnett said the first day of festivities on Friday, March 2, would give just a small taste of things to come.
Novelty events of Apple Day, including the Apple Peeling Competition, are sure to delight the crowds.
Mr Barnett said participants will compete for the Longest Apple Peel in one length and the Fastest Apple Peel at the Farley Piazza in Maryland Street, Stanthorpe, from 11am to 1pm.
Keeping with the theme of the day, the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) will host Apple Pie and Teacake, Apple Jelly and Grape Jam Competitions.
You can submit your entries between 8am and 10am at QCWA Stanthorpe in Victoria Street, with winners announced that afternoon.
A Seniors Concert at the Stanthorpe International Club from 9am to 11am will have your toes tapping to the music.
Then it’s time for a leisurely stroll to see the decorated windows of local businesses, the fruit and vegetable exhibition at the Festival Showroom, corner of Maryland and Railway streets, and the inaugural Apple and Grape Harvest Festival Quilting Competition at the Uniting Church, 113 High Street.
For those more active, there will be the 4BBB Stableford Golf and Bowls Day at the Stanthorpe Sports and Country Club.
To cap off the day’s events, the ‘Rio Carnival’ Gala Ball will be held at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre from 6pm. The Festival Ambassador and Fundraising Ambassador will be announced.
Otherwise, the movie night might be more your style. Held at the Stanthorpe Primary State School, Marsh Street, from 6pm, the movie night is free but donations would be appreciated.
