Warwick Wildcats struggle against Toowoomba

Saturday night saw a Warwick crowd show their support for their local team, by attending the Warwick Wildcats first home game for the season at Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre (WIRAC).
In a game where the Wildcats were always going to struggle against an opponent from a higher division, the Wildcats were dealt a blow with captain Snowy Quinn having to withdraw from the game due to work commitments in Brisbane.
“We really missed his leadership and creativity on Saturday night,” coach Jeff Clark said.
The Wildcats struggled to get the ball into the attacking end of the court, with constant high quality defensive pressure from the Toowoomba Mountaineers team.
After being within reach of the Mountaineers team at quarter time, the team went down 158-73.
“I hope that the Warwick supporters don’t give up on us,” Clark said.
“I remember five years ago when I first started coaching all of these young players, we lost our first game 124-18 to a much more experienced Toowoomba team.
“By the end of that season, we went on to win the regional championship, and then defended it the following two years!
“These boys have shown that they are extremely fast learners and love to play as underdogs.
“Stick with us and I am positive that not only will we be around for the finals, but there will be plenty of great games for Warwick fans to watch throughout the season,” he said.
The Wildcats play another game against a Brisbane team at WIRAC this Saturday at 5pm.
