Warwick Scouts has a new group leader in Melanie Gibbons, and she has been leading the team for a few months.

“Scouts is a great place for people to learn life skills, determination, and resilience,” Melanie said.

“We have some amazing activities and adventurous opportunities, like rock climbing and abseiling.”

One of its members, 14-year-old Malcolm, will be heading to the World Jamboree in South Korea in August 2023.

“The World Jamoree is basically a gathering of scouts worldwide – they have their own town,” Melanie said.

“There is an Australian Contingent of 900; 700 of those are Scouts.”

Melanie said that people interested in joining the group are welcome to attend upcoming meetings to learn more about them.

“The Joey’s (ages 5 -8 years) is held on Thursday nights from 5pm to 6pm, Cubs (8-11 years) is held on Tuesday nights from 6-7.30pm, Scouts (11-14 years) is held on Thursdays from 6pm-8pm, and Venturers (14-18) years is held on Thursdays from 6.30-8.30pm,” she said.

“Children can attend Scouts 3 times on section nights to try out to see if it’s suitable for them.”

Melanie said that Scouts overall is very youth lead.

“Team leaders help facilitate their activities, but these are decided by the groups themselves.”
