Wallangarra Transfer Station opening soon

Residents in the Wallangarra area will soon be able to take advantage of improved facilities for their waste management, with the opening of the new Wallangarra waste transfer station expected in early July.
The new transfer station, built for a cost of about $600,000, will replace the landfill at Wallangarra and will provide a much safer and user friendly facility, which will also comply with environmental requirements.
“As well as being safer and easier to use, another benefit of the new facility will be a greater opportunity for residents to recycle waste, thanks to the Endeavour Foundation, who will be servicing the recycling bins,” Southern Downs Regional Mayor Peter Blundell said.
“Green waste and scrap metal areas will also be provided for recycling and reuse purposes,” Cr Blundell said.
Wallangarra residents will still be able to dispose of their domestic waste free of charge. However, disposal fees will apply for the dumping of tyres.
Fees will apply to commercial users and to residents from outside of the Southern Downs Regional Council area.
The new transfer station will operate as a supervised facility, and will be open from Friday to Monday from 8am to 5pm. The facility will be closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
An opening date will be advised when operations are ready to start.
For more information on the new facility, contact the council’s environmental section on (07) 4681 5500.
