Foreign Minister Bob Carr jetted off to Libya to intercede for lawyer Melinda Taylor who was arrested by the Libyans. Taylor is an employee of the International Criminal Court which has arraigned Dictator Gaddafi’s son on war crimes charges.
Carr’s determination to spring Taylor from Libyan custody is far different than the help Australia has given to another of its citizens who is fighting extradition to Sweden on trumped up charges because he ran foul of the American juggernaut for publishing “classified” documents.
Julian Assange has had to seek refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy and apply for asylum to prevent being sent to Sweden and then, most likely, on to the USA where he could face long years of imprisonment in the American Gulag.
It is unprecedented that Carr would go to such lengths to assist Taylor and do so little for Assange. Why doesn’t the ICC be the one to plead for the release of Taylor as she is working for that court?
There must be more to the Taylor saga than what we are being told.
