In 2012 we have many crucial decisions to make that will vitally affect our own lives, our families’ and our neighbours’.
So how do we decide what to believe and how we should live? How is it possible to distinguish right from wrong, good from evil?
Some would suggest that we have to personally make up our own minds, our own beliefs and our own rules. Of course in the Southern Downs (pop 33000) that could result in 33000 different opinions and decisions, inevitably producing confusion, lawlessness and chaos. Adopting as our theme song “I did it my way” is not such a good idea at all for us independent Aussies who like to rebel against authority.
The good news is that our all powerful but loving Creator hasn’t left us in the dark as to His plans and purposes for our welfare. His infallible Word – the Bible – makes clear that all sin can be forgiven if we repent of our disobedience and rebellion against our Holy God (1 Jn.1:7-9).
One of the devil’s cunning schemes these days is to paint those who accept our Creator God’s laws and standards as being ‘intolerant’. We must not be deceived into thinking that we know better than our loving God what is best for us. At our peril we will arrogantly substitute our own mankind’s benefit and blessing.
Abortion – on demand, euthanasia, the ‘sexual revolution’ and the desecration of marriage are a few examples of the downward spiral of our sinful way of life. But the good news is that whatever our sinful lifestyle may be, we are promised forgiveness and a new beginning (2 Co.5:17-21) if we sincerely repent and accept Jesus Christ as our only Saviour and Lord (Ac.3:19).
