As part of the continuing Stanthorpe 150th Anniversary Celebrations, a Heritage Weekend has been planned by Artworks Granite Belt and the Amiens History Association for 3 and 4 September .

Artworks Granite Belt will hold a Heritage Market Day on Saturday 3 September from 10 am to 2 pm at the Stanthorpe Railway Precinct, Davadi St, Stanthorpe.

It was originally to be held earlier this year but was postponed due to wet weather.

Attendees can welcome the Downs Explorer steam train, enjoy bands, stalls, children’s games and art, Whistlestop Heritage Gardens, Vintage Cars, Sausage Sizzle, Toffee apples and Fresh produce.

In celebration of our history, ArtWorks is hoping to recreate the feel of an 1880s Market Day and attendees are encouraged to join in on the fun.

They shared some suggestions for easy costumes that you will probably be able to find at home.

Ladies can wear a long skirt and blouse and ArtWorks suggest wearing a bit of lace around the neck with a brooch to hold it and a shady hat with a bow or flower to set it off.

Boots can be lace-up or pulled on, whatever is comfy. Hair should be tied up or pulled back, or you can hide it under your hat.

For gents, ArtWorks suggest pulling that vest out of mothballs, grabbing a coat and trousers, and combining them with a nice bright scarf around the neck with the collar of your shirt up.

A hat is optional, but ArtWorks suggest you go for a top hat or straw boater.

Girls can wear pretty, longish dresses in light colours or florals with a sash, stockings, and boots or flat shoes. ArtWorks suggest wearing hair in braids or curls.

For the lads, ArtWorks suggest trousers, a vest and long-sleeved shirt, and long socks with the trouser legs tucked into the top. Then put on a cap and you are done.

ArtWorks say clothes were mostly woollen or heavy cotton, and ladies’ blouses were soft materials like taffeta.

The Amiens History Association will present a re-run of their Stanthorpe 150th Celebration event – The Tin Experience – on Sunday, 4 September 2022 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Amiens Legacy Centre, 17 Goldfields Road, Amiens.

Patrons can enjoy demonstrations of tin panning, sluicing, melting and molding, plus screenings of a new documentary on Stanthorpe Tin, food and beverages and all that the Amiens Legacy Centre has to offer.
