Iconic trucking convoy to remember those who we’ve lost

South East Queensland’s most iconic trucking convoy is back this weekend with the Lights on the Hill Memorial Convoy Weekend scheduled for 1 and 2 October.

Hundreds of truck enthusiasts and supporters line the streets to get a glimpse of the convoy, with hundreds of trucks taking part.

The memorial was started to remember members of the Australian road transport industry who have lost their lives, so they can be honoured and remembered forever more.

The name of the memorial originates from the famous Slim Dusty song Lights on the Hill. Before he passed away, he and his wife agreed to let the organisation use the name and became patrons for the memorial.

Convoys will leave both Brisbane and Toowoomba at 9am on Saturday 1 October, scheduled to arrive in Gatton at the showgrounds from about 10.30am.

A a free family fun day will include free kids rides, markets, trade and food stalls, a charity auction and a truck show. There will be live music by the Wolfe Brothers, Hayley Jensen, Josh Setterfield, Will Day, Travis Sinclair, Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrell, Tony Q Band Billy Bridge, Rebecca Lee Nye and Smokie Pete.

Sunday morning, sees the memorial service take place from 10am at the Memorial itself at Lake Apex Park, on Lake Apex Drive in Gatton.

Tickets are available online via lightsonthehill.com.au or at the gate.
