Stanthorpe Jockey club president Neil Chips Brunckhorst said he could not be happier with the nominations for Saturday Stanthorpe Cup race meeting.

“We’ve received outstanding nominations with many races at capacity or better,” Brunckhorst said.

“The track is in perfect order and with the big fields this is certain to be one of our better Cup

meetings.”

He said there were excellent nominations for the Stanthorpe Cup which is one of the qualifying races for the 2022 Country Cups Challenge which will be run at Doomben on 3 December.

For owners a win is a double whammy – you not only get to pick up some nice prizemoney but also get a run in a the Country Cups Challenge and a chance to share in the $200,000 on offer for that race.

However, qualifying for the race via the Mitre 10 Stanthorpe Cup is not going to be easy as a quality field will line up at Armstrong Park on Saturday.

The 2021 Stanthorpe Cup winner Colpo Di Tamburo is returning to defend his title. Colpo Di Tamburo looks well place and will be cheery ripe after having two runs back from a spell. He led in last week’s Warwick Cup and weakened so will be hard to run down on the Stanthorpe track with that run under his belt.

The Warwick Cup winner Military Kings will also line up in 1400m Cup.

Another runner to keep safe is the Kevin Kemp trained Dreamtimer who has some recent city form.

Happy Cino is another to look closely at and could be there when the whips are cracking.

Don’t discount the Matt Kropp pair – he does not take them to the races for a drive.

The Queensland Country Bank Stampede over 1000metre is an interesting races and has some flying

speedsters engaged. The winner of this race will also qualify for the Queensland Country Stampede

which will also be run at Doomben on 3 December.

Sam’s a Natural is proven on the Armstrong park track having won here last year and will be hard to

beat again.

Toowoomba galloper The Tenor is a good sprinter and looks the main danger along with Peachies

Dream from the Toowoomba stable of Mark Currie.

The K & A Building 0-60 handicap looks a suitable race for the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained

Stars ‘n’ Riches. The two Shotgun horses, Shotgun Socks and Shotgun Sam look like hard to beat.

(you have to feel for the race caller).

The 1400 metre Ensbey Electrical Benchmark 50 the toughest races of the day on paper.

Kiki Coco, Janessa Dream Seeker, Rozeena and Flower All Good are all big chances to earn a cheque.

The 1000 metre Country Club / MJ Cleaners maiden has also attracted a full field of nominations.

This is an ideal race for He’s A Devil from the Sears stable and is the top pick with Mr Quickstep in an

open betting race.

Buckleys and Carton Curve are two runners likely to figure in the betting and the finish of this race.

The best bet of the day could be Colpo Di Tamburo in the cup in what is shaping as a top class day of

racing at Stanthorpe.
