It’s renowned as one of the top Queensland country races, and this year’s Stanthorpe Mitre 10 Stanthorpe Cup is set to be a good one.

Neil “Chips“ Brunckhorst, president of Stanthorpe Jockey Club, said this year is “looking pretty good“.

“Last year was the biggest one that we’ve seen for a long time,“ he said.

Chips said they’re expecting a good crowd this year as well, and the track is in beautiful conditions.

“It’s probably never been in better conditions,“ he said. “The surroundings too, it’s all in really good condition.“

Attendees can expect the usual three bars, with Ballandean Estate running the wine bar as usual.

There will also be 14 bookmakers onsite.

Crisps Coaches will be running free buses from town to the fields, leaving from the town centre opposite the post office.

Buses will be running from 11am until around 1:30pm.

Return buses will be available from 5pm.

The classic Fashions on the Field will be judged, with the best dressed gentleman, woman, and couple set to be crowned.

After the races are run, attendees can enjoy live music until 8pm.

“It’s always a fantastic atmosphere out there,“ Chips said. “It’s a really good day.“

“We expect the fields to be really good and there to be plenty of horses.“

Tickets will be available at the gate on Saturday, or you can buy your tickets online ahead of the big day.
