De-amalgamation supporters meet

Members of the Return Our Shires Action Group with the bound copies of the petition signatures and the submission: Fina Andreatta, Maxine Dagg, Laurie Dagg (obscured), Peter Andrewartha, Val Andreatta, Alan and Leisha Stanton, Mary Rofe, Sue and Bob Johnson.

The Return Our Shires Action Group got together at Suttons Cidery last weekend to view copies of the ‘Sustainability through Diversity’ submission.
The submission was presented to the Local Government Minister, David Crisafuli, and local Member, Lawrence Springborg, on August 28 in support of de-amalgamation of Southern Downs Regional Council area back to the former shires of Stanthorpe and Warwick.
The action group worked furiously in the five weeks prior, to gather many more than the required number of signatures on the petition. Bob Johnson thanked those present and congratulated them on their achievement which he said was remarkable in the short time frame.
Bob briefly outlined the process from now on, and advised volunteers that meetings would continue, with a planning meeting scheduled for tonight, Thursday, September 13, at 6pm.
The officers at the Department of Local Government received the submission favourably and the group believes their efforts will be successful but must wait until further news is released by the Minister.
Further information about joining the group can be obtained by ringing Mary Rofe 4681 0805 or Bob and Sue Johnson 4681 0871.
