Council seeks rates input

The Southern Downs Regional Council is seeking expressions of interest from residents who are keen to participate in the ongoing review of Council’s rating system as members of Council’s Rating Consultation Group.
The Rating Consultation Group was established in February 2011 and provides advice to Council on what changes or enhancements may be needed to the current rating model in order to establish a fair and equitable rating system across the region, with an open and transparent rating process.
Following a request from current group members, Council has agreed to call for expressions of interest to renew the membership of the group. Mayor Peter Blundell was very appreciative of the excellent work done by the current group so far.
“I would particularly like to thank the members of the initial Rating Consultation Group for the continued work they have put into assisting Council with fine tuning the differential rating system that is currently in place,” said the Mayor.
“The recommendations from this group have been provided honestly and openly, and have been given with the best interest of the region in mind,” he said.
Council is keen to commence the review of the 2013 rating methodology as soon as possible, ahead of next year’s budget.
Applicants are requested to provide details as to why they are interested in being a member of this Group, as well as details of any relevant experience.  It is desirable that members be available for meetings both during and outside working hours.  Participation is entirely voluntary.
Notes on the Rating Consultation Group are available on Council’s website at www.southerndowns.qld.gov.au under Hot Topics.  For further information, please contact Tony Brett, Acting Director Corporate Services on telephone 4661 0300.
Expressions of Interest should be forwarded to Tony Brett, Southern Downs Regional Council, PO Box 26, Warwick  Qld  4370 by Friday, September 21.
