Council to the rescue

The rescued cat.

Southern Downs Regional Council Water and Sewerage workers took time out from their regular works to perform Good Samaritan duties last week.  They were called upon to rescue a cat which had become trapped in a three metre drain in Capital Drive.
The puss was very happy to be rescued and suffered no injuries.  However, as it had no identification and no microchipping, the owners were unable to be contacted.  The puss is now being cared for at the Warwick pound, awaiting collection.
“Registration of your dog or cat is one of the most important steps you need to take when you take on the responsibility of pet ownership,” stressed Mr Tim O’Brien, Manager Environmental Services.
“By paying an annual registration fee and having your animal wear the registration tag, you will ensure that Council has all the necessary details to arrange the safe return of pets that stray and are impounded,” he said.
Similarly, microchipping is also a great way of identifying your pet.
Council, in conjunction with the Warwick Veterinary Services, held a discounted microchipping day where the service will cost just 50 per cent of the regular price of microchipping.
“This will go a long way to alleviating some of the stress of looking for your dog or cat if they are lost, knowing that, if found, they can be easily identified and you will be contacted,” Mr O’Brien said.
The event was held at the Warwick Veterinary Clinic on Tuesday.
For further information on discounted microchipping, please contact the Warwick Veterinary Clinic on 4661 1105.  For information on the rescued cat please contact Council on 4661 0300.
