The Southern Downs and Granite Belt community have pulled together and raised more than $12,300 for Claire McKenzie, the popular Stanthorpe seamstress, who sustained critical injuries last Thursday after a slashing accident.

The 60-year-old lost both legs in the horrific accident; however, surgeons were able to save her arm, even though it was severely damaged.

A Go Fund Me page was set up for Ms McKenzie, who is now in an induced coma, by Kylie Beckett.

Ms Beckett said the funds were to use for medical expenses or anything else needed for Ms McKenzie’s recovery.

“I had dealings through her business and found her to be a really lovely lady.“

“I set up the Go Fund Me page because Stanthorpe is a great community that always rallies around each other in times of need.“

“I just got the ball rolling and its gone on from there,“ she said.

According to reports, Ms McKenzie is expected to be woken from an induced coma later this week or next week, pending surgeries.

On the Go Fund Me page, Ms McKenzie is described as being a kind and lovely lady, many messages of healing, love and strength have been flowing in.

Ms McKenzie has undergone multiple operations on her legs and arm with no sign of infection at this stage.

Ms McKenzie was the only person on the property at the time of the accident and, despite her life-threatening injuries, managed to call Emergency services.

QAS attended the private property in Watter Road just before lunchtime on 24 November and were assisted by QFES and the QPS.

The Rescue 500 chopper transported Ms McKenzie to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, where she remains.
