Stanthorpe and District Cricket Association President Tim Harslett has hailed the 2023 Super 8’sm played at the weekend, as a great success was a great success.

“After missed the Carnival in 2022 thru COVID, everyone was really looking forward to a fun day and it was certainly that,” Tim, who captained the All Sorts, said.

The Super 8’s Day was sponsored by Qld Country Bank and Howard Trade Centre with

10 teams playing in the round robin competition which was split into Pool A and Pool B. Winning was not the name of the game but it was exciting to see a Junior team – the Mighty Juniors win Pool B

The winners of Pool A were Big Bucks a team put together by Callum Blake who plays for Stanthorpe Souths. The team included some old mates and school friends from Brisbane who joined Callum for the weekend to help celebrate his buck’s party. The Team’s star signing, NRL and Bronco’s player Billy Walters. Blake met Walters through mates at school and used to play social cricket with him in Brisbane. The star recruit had a number of the junior players star struck and was very generous with his time during the day taking photos with kids and signing heaps autographs and answering plenty of questions.

For Walters it was a chance to enjoying a bit of down time from training before the start of the NRL trial games.

After the fun frivolity and frothies enjoyed at the weekend its back to business with regular cricket fixtures returning on Saturday. RSL play Wanderers on CF White while Souths and Valleys play on Sheahan Oval.
