A purchase with heart

There’s no good time to have a heart attack, but some places are undoubtedly better than others.

One of those places is Ballandean, for on the weekend a brand new defibrillator was installed at the front of the Ballandean Hall.

The machine has been put in the entranceway, and the intention is to have a light on all night so that people can easily find their way to it in an emergency.

Col Maher, treasurer of the Ballandean Hall and Sports Committee for the past 30 years, said he’d thought about it a few times over the years and now the club had gone ahead and put the idea into actuality.

“There is another defibrillator in the district but it’s under lock and key. Even the Rural Fire guys carry them, but it seemed a good idea to have one available at all times. We’ll leave a light on all night so people can access it,” he said.

“If you ring Triple 0, they’ll tell you where the closest one is. There’s a register.”

The cost of the unit was $2700. It has easy-to-understand instructions.
