Jacob Kent has starred in a very positive Granite Belt Little Athletics season which wrapped up late last month.

Jacob and Ethan Kent and Hugh Barker represented the club with distinction in Townsville.

Between them, they participated in 10 events. Jacob Kent’s impressive season continued with a win in the U/15 Javelin throw.

It has been a busy season for this young Stanthorpe athlete. In the Regional Championships in Toowoomba he broke two records on his way to winning the U/15 discus. He also won the Javelin and Shot put, finished second in the Long Jump and third in the 100m sprint, second in long jump and third in 100m.

He also finished second in the Qld Little Athletics Combined Championships Throws Triathlon (javelin, discus and shotput).

Jacob also competed with success in Qld Athletics Shield meets and in the Qld Athletics State Championships won the javelin and finished third in the discus throw.

He is currently competing in those disciplines at the National Athletics Championships in Brisbane.

Granite Belt Little Athletic Organisers said 69 athletes from 41 registered for the season.

Looking back on the season one of the highlights for the athletes was the Southern Downs Little Athletics Carnival held at Hamilton Oval in conjunction with Warwick Little Athletics Centre.

Ninety-six children from the two clubs were involved and it is hoped to make this an annual event and a highlight of the Southern Downs Little As calendar.

The Granite Belt club was represented by 19 athletes at the Regional Carnival in Toowoomba and 14 qualified for the Qld State Championships in Townsville.

They were Cooper Ashburn, Hugh Barker, Will Favaro, Isabella Jackson, Aiden McCosker, Liam O’Dea, Evie Barker, Ethan Kent, Ashley Jackson, Addison McCosker, Jacob Kent, Erin O’Dea, Ewan Keith and Brigid O’Dea.

The Club appreciates the efforts of the many coaches and volunteers who make Little A’s possible each Saturday. Without their work and dedication there would be no Little Athletics.

Jared Crisp (Crisps Coaches) presented Medallions and Trophies at the recent Awards ceremony (full details of the winners are available on the Stanthorpe Today Facebook page).

The winners of the Most Outstanding Male and Female Athlete must have consistently demonstrated their outstanding athletic ability, including representing Granite Belt Little Athletics at Carnivals but also good sportsmanship).

The Club wishes to acknowledge and thank the following sponsors for their support during the season;- Major Sponsor, Stanthorpe McDonalds, Crisps Coaches and Mal Jackson Physiotherapy Stanthorpe.

The club now goes into recess during the winter months. The new season opens in Sept / Oct.
