Pictorial record 2023 Anzac Day

The Dawn Service at Stanthorpe. Chilly, solemn and packed.

From dawn to sunset, Stanthorpe had it covered with its Anzac Day commemorative events. With dignitaries to servicemen and women to children, thousands turned out across three services and a parade to honour the ANZACS of 108 years ago and all who have served in Australian armed forces since. While most of the Anzac action is in town either at Weeroona Park or along the main street, a special service is also an annual part of the day at the Ballandean Pyramid. This beautiful setting has been said to bring tears to the eyes of attendees when the ode is read. “At the going down of the sun …” The Pyramid is 17.5m high, and 7500 tonnes of granite rock went into creating the landmark. It really is the most beautiful setting for a sunset service.
