Community events for Mental Health Week

Southern Downs Mental Health Service is celebrating Mental Health Week (October 7 – 13) with a series of displays, workshops and community events.
Southern Downs Mental Health Service Mental Health Promotion Officer, Danielle Peres, said the service looks forward to presenting as much information about good mental health as possible during the week.
“The theme for 2012 is ‘Working Towards Wellbeing’, reinforcing the fact that staying healthy means looking after yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
“The connectedness that healthy relationships bring to communities helps to build great lives and helps keep people well.
“Being in touch with nature makes us feel good, so take time for yourself to do what’s important to you, stay involved, and join a club.
“Volunteer health experts say that doing good deeds adds meaning to our lives and helps our self-esteem and stay involved with your community.  One of the best ways is to form and maintain healthy relationships with people who have your interests at heart,” she said.
Ms Peres said mental health week activities include:
MILLMERRAN Display: October 7 to 13: at Millmerran Library
WARWICK Display: October 7 to 13: at Warwick Library and at the Southern Downs Regional Council Relaxation – “Activate Mind & Body”.
STANTHORPE Display: October 12: at Stanthorpe State High School at 2.00pm
