Zonta Stanthorpe members have kept busy during the last few months of our calendar year.
Proceeds from our Zonta Pink Lunch Breast Cancer fundraiser were distributed locally to Stanthorpe Cancer Support group for Breast cancer patient care and support and UQ Breast Cancer Research program.
Liza Thompson, ZS Director of Service presented the annual Zonta Young Women Encouragement awards to Yr 9 and Yr 11 students from St Joseph’s and Stanthorpe State High schools at Awards nights during October and November.
Last Sunday 26th November SDRC Stephen Tancred officially opened Zonta Stanthorpe Remarkable Women of the Granite Belt Project. Approximately 50 attendees including family and colleagues of the 12 women and organisations nominated, sponsors and members of the public attended. Zonta Stanthorpe members are proud of this project designed to preserve the history of the contribution of women in forming our community over the past 150yrs.
Zonta Stanthorpe will acknowledge the international campaign Zonta Says NO to Gender Based Violence between 25 November and 10 December.
Nearly 730 million women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence at least once in their lives. No country is within reach of eradicating intimate partner violence.
Despite the scale of the problem and these worrying trends, financial commitments to violence prevention remain limited. Investing in preventing violence against women and girls is crucial to achieving gender equality by 2030.
The 16 days of activism campaign, which aims to raise awareness of and increase actions to end violence against women and girls around the world, began in 2012 and is marked by public buildings and public spaces being lit orange – the United Nations colour of activism. SDRC will light up trees in Weeroona park.
During the 16 days of activism Zonta Stanthorpe will be present to show our support for Gary Fawcett’s Ride Against DV Monster Garage Sale Fundraiser on Sunday 3rd December at Broadwater Hall. Proceeds will be donated to Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre(GBNC) to assist those affected by family and DV.

The 16 days strengthen the good local work being done in our local community to end violence against women by organizations and groups including GBNC, Protea Place and Safe Haven Warwick
