Motorist dies in hospital after colliding with tree near Stanthorpe

A Bapaume man involved in a serious traffic collision near Stanthorpe in early December has died in hospital three days after the incident.

The 74-year-old reportedly lost control of his vehicle on Amiens Road in Applethorpe and hit a tree at about midday on 1 December.

Emergency services transported the man to Stanthorpe Hospital in a critical condition, police said.

According to police, he was later flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday 4 December.

Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing and urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

As of 11 December, approximately 266 people have lost their lives driving Queensland roads in 2023.
