It was a wet Christmas for the driver and passenger of a car that ended up in Quart Pot Creek at Stanthorpe on 25 December.

Police reported that a 19-year-old Maryborough woman was driving northwards towards the Carnarvon Bridge and failed to negotiate a bend in the road during heavy rain.

The woman and her passenger were taken to Stanthorpe Hospital as a precaution. The car remained in the creek over the Christmas period and was pulled out around 1 January. Police are investigating if any offences were committed.

On 28 December police were called to Dempster Lane, Thulimbah, after a single motorcycle accident. The 19-year-old rider from Redland Bay was transported to Stanthorpe Hospital with minor injuries and later released.

For the period between Christmas and new year, Stanthorpe Police reported three drink drivers and one drug driver.

Senior Sergeant Gerard Brady, officer in charge of the station, said the most concerning incident was where a 17-year-old driver had crashed his car on West Road and had subsequently returned a blood alcohol reading of .063. The driver will appear in Stanthorpe Children’s Court on 6 February.

In the minutes before the clock ticked over to the new year, a Severnlea man was pulled over on Folkestone Street and his blood alcohol level was tested by police at .138. He was taken to the station and charged. Police allege the 39-year-old man struck the bonnet of a police vehicle on his way out and he was further charged with wilful damage.

Also on 31 December, police attended a High Street address and during their visit conducted a search where they located a small amount of cannabis. They reported that the 52-year-old man at the house created a disturbance so they took him into custody. He was charged with two counts of assaulting police, possession of a dangerous drug, producing a dangerous drug and obstructing police.

On New Year’s Day a 49-year-old man from Fleurbaix was pulled over and returned a .059 blood alcohol level. He will appear in the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on 7 February.
