Wheatmen run over Water Rats

Water Rats on Saturday following their loss to Dalby.

After a big win the previous week Warwick Water Rats have gone down to Dalby 37-12 in their Darling Downs Rugby Union clash on Saturday in Warwick.

President Tess Cullen said the Water Rats had been leading 5-3 at half time but down on numbers, they were unable to capitalise in the second half.

“We just didn’t cross over the line enough due to bad offloads mostly and isolated play,” she said.

“Dalby ran away with it in the second half and we just couldn’t scrape back.

“We went into it third on the ladder so we are unsure just yet how that’ll affect our standing.

“Dalby were second so it really would have been great to win.

“The Wheatmen are almost unbeatable at home though but we still could have played better.

“We only went out with 15 guys so they were absolutely exhausted – we had nine players unavailable.”

Tries were scored by Jolame Vai and Isikeli Nakoroilagilagi and conversion by Tom Gillespie.

One point to winger Jonacani Bituleka who had a great game in defence and with very fast feet in attack.

Two points to try scorer and number eight Joe who had great cover defence in the wide channels.

Player of the match was Scotty Taat, who made a huge impact and showing his versatility playing in both the forwards and the backs.

“We take on Bears next weekend away in Toowoomba,” Cullen said.

“They are in great form, similar to us they are having a much improved 2024 season compared to last year.”

Meanwhile tickets to Reunion Round and 60th birthday in July were released earlier this week.

“People can link through our Facebook page or if they need help booking (pay by card over the phone) they can call me on 0447 923 859,” she said.

“Tickets are $110 each and include access to the field side marquee, sit down lunch and five hour drinks package.”
