SOUTHS TAKE HONOURS ON NEW WICKET

After several rain interruptions during the past few week’s cricketers finally got the opportunity to get on to the newly laid turf wicket at the CF White last weekend.

RSL and South are met in the first game on the new wicket and RSL scored a modest 136.

In the RSL innings Todd Bardy played a real captain’s knock scoring a hard earned half century. Bardy received good support from Will Dowie who pitched in with an entertaining 34.

However the remaining RSL batsmen struggled to come to terms with the new wicket. Curator of the new wicket, Mark Lanza had the honour of bowling the first ball on the new wicket.

Alan Cameron caused the RSL batsmen plenty of headaches and finished the game with figures of 4/26. Dave Burgess also bowled well finishing with 3/24.

South’s had their own problems when they came to the wicket. Mark Lanza (20) and Ben Staley (30) looked to have given South’s a comfortable platform from which to win the game.

Cruising along at 2/77 South’s slumped to 7/106. RSL bowler Michael Thompson (3/37) causing a few headaches and nervous moments. However a quick fire 18 not out from Adam Bonner and 16 not out from Scott Williams was enough to give the reigning premiers the points.
