Official opening of art gallery and library

The Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery and Library.

After being displaced for so long during expansion and renovation work, the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery and Library couldn’t wait for the official opening to open their doors.

Hundreds of people have streamed through the red doors to the art gallery and torrents of books have been borrowed from the library, but on Friday 9 August it will all coalesce with the official seal of approval when a plaque is unveiled by Minister for Education and Assistant Minister for Regional development Anthony Chisholm.

The ceremony will be held at 10.30am at the art gallery-library precinct in Weeroona Park and will be attended by Leader of the National Party and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud, Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Melissa Hamilton and councillors.

The project has been fraught with difficulties and delays partly due to the contractors going into administration, but the creative hub is now hitting its stride, with more space, better services, upgraded fit-out and improved fire safety for the art and books, collectively worth millions of dollars.
