The Historic Leyburn Sprints celebrated its 28th year with record-breaking crowds and an overwhelmingly positive response from both locals and visitors.

Held over the weekend, the event saw an unprecedented turnout, making it the biggest Leyburn Sprints event to date.

President Tricia Chant said the weekend was fantastic and a great success.

“We were blown away by the number of spectators on Saturday,” Ms Chant said.

“While we’re still working on finalising the figures, it’s clear that this was our most successful event yet.”

The Leyburn Sprints, which features classic and historic cars racing through the streets of Leyburn, has become a significant event not just for the town but for the entire region.

According to Ms Chant, the event provides a substantial economic boost to Leyburn and surrounding areas.

“It’s a huge cash injection, not just for us, but for all the surrounding townships and community groups that get involved,” she said.

The support from the Leyburn community was also strong, with locals coming out in force to help and participate.

“The town really gets behind the event,” Ms Chant said.

“Everyone is supportive, and it benefits the whole town.”

Reflecting on the event’s growth and future, Chant added, “This being our 28th year, it’s just getting bigger and stronger, and we look forward to many more years.”

The Leyburn Sprints continues to be a highlight of the regional event calendar, drawing car enthusiasts and spectators from across the country to experience the excitement and charm of this historic event.
