Lock it or lose it, police warn

THIEVES are targeting unlocked vehicles in Warwick, following a spate of unlawful entries, and police are urging motorists to lock up or risk losing their valuables.
Five separate vehicles were targeted with items stolen including cash, vehicle floodlights and UHF radios.
The break-ins occurred at Bracker Street, the Warwick CBD, as well as in residential areas.
Warwick Police Senior Sergeant Stewart Day has called for motorists to heed police warnings and be extra diligent with their belongings.
Sen Sgt Day said all five vehicles targeted were unlocked and were victims of opportunistic thieves.
“Residents are still not heeding police warnings about the need to lock their vehicles,” he said.
“It’s important that motorists lock up and park their vehicles out of sight if possible, don’t leave valuables in your vehicle and ensure if you do have valuables, such as a GPS or mobile phone, that they are kept out of sight and in a secure compartment.”
Snr Sgt Day said thieves often walked the streets attempting to open car doors.
“If the car’s locked they move to the next one,” he said.
Police were investigating the unlawful entries and have offered some handy tips to avoid falling victim.
Anyone who can assist police with their investigation can contact Warwick Police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
