Granite Belt cinema buffs will have the chance to release their inner film critic when the Manhattan Short Film Festival comes to Stanthorpe on Saturday 28 September.

The festival will screen the top 10 of 872 entries from 74 countries … and global audiences are being asked to make the final vote.

The viewing opportunity is expected to give more than 100,000 film lovers from throughout the world an opportunity to watch the films and cast their votes for Best Film and Best Actor.

The Stanthorpe viewing will be held at Arcadia Theatre, organised by the Stanthorpe Film Society. People will be given their voting ballot card on entry to the cinema.

The films on show will be The Talent, I’m Not a Robot, Mother, Dovecote, Pathological, Alarms, Favourites, The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent, Room Taken and Jane Austen’s Period Drama.

All Manhattan Short finalists are automatically eligible for an Academy Award nomination.

The Stanthorpe Film Society is part of the Australian Film Societies Federation and is a not-for-profit organisation that is run by volunteers. It usually hosts 10 film nights a year. People can become members by direct debit or on a movie-viewing night for a small fee. More information is available from president Sandy Venn-Brown on 0437 643 722.
