Zonta Stanthorpe marked a significant milestone, celebrating 25 years of dedicated service to the local community with a dinner dance at the Granite Belt Brewery. The venue held special meaning, as it was the location of the club’s first meeting in 1999.

The celebration brought together past and present members, along with friends of Zonta Stanthorpe, to honour the club’s legacy. Remarkably, the club, which began with 23 members, still retains all of its founding members today in some capacity.

In a social media post, Southern Downs Councillor Russell Wantling expressed his admiration for Zonta’s contributions.

“This organisation has been making a profound impact in our community since its charter in 1999, and my respect for the work they do locally, regionally, and right across the world continues to grow,” Cr Wantling wrote.

He also commended the club’s leadership, stating, “A huge congratulations to Edith and her team for their tireless dedication to encouraging positive change in the region. Their work is nothing short of inspiring.”

Zonta Stanthorpe is part of Zonta International, an organisation that focuses on empowering women and improving their status worldwide. The Stanthorpe branch continues to be a vital presence in the region, with members committed to making a difference in the lives of local women.

The group, described as a “small but merry band of women,“ meets on the second Monday of each month and is open to visitors and new members.
