THE iconic Plumb Chambers on Fitzroy Street is falling into a state of disrepair after wooden skirting began falling off the main building last week.
The danger prompted Southern Downs Regional Council to close the footpath passing under the former retail buildings to avoid any potential injuries from the deteriorating structure.
Rose City Shoppingworld manager Jason Gard said he had not been informed of the council’s footpath closure, but anticipated a letter from council in the coming days.
Mr Gard said he could not comment on the condition of the buildings nor whether the larger of the two structures would require urgent maintenance.
The small building has already been earmarked for demolition and will make way for an extending truck loading bay, meanwhile the future of the larger building remains unknown.
“The owner has been made aware of the condition of the buildings and has made no comment,” Mr Gard said.
