January 5

– The Commandos in Timor by Damien Parer

– Women’s Land Army: The first Women’s Land Army Corp was opened at Ballandean yesterday.

Thulimbah Camp will be opened on the weekend. Glen Aplin Camp is being put in order. More camps will be established if sites and water available. Up to 300 girls will work in the district

(Minimum wage 30/ and keep; 55/ in camp)

January 12

– Case Shortage: “The greatest disaster in the history of the Granite Belt threatens fruitgrowers”

of tons of tomatoes and fruit could be left to rot in orchards. Local mills are unable to procure logs Brisbane is offering more for Killarney logs than local mills can afford to pay.
