FRIENDSHIP DAY A SUCCESS

The Warwick Croquet Club held a very successful Friendship Day on Wednesday (31/5) at their Leslie Park headquarters. The Warwick Golf Croquet group welcomed players from Stanthorpe and Toowoomba. Playing conditions and the weather were perfect and the group had a very enjoyable day.

Prior to the friendship day the Association group played games on Saturday (27/5) and Tuesday (30/5)

In Saturday’s game Peter Campbell and Lesley Grayson defeated Tony Hinde and Dorothy Gartery 19-16.

On Tuesday Peter Campbell and Trish Davey combined to score a narrow 13-12 win over Tony Hinde and Marg Lawton 12.

Scores in the second game were also close. Lesley Grayson and Bob Burt defeating Dorothy Gartery and E’Lane Burt 12-10

The normal Golf Croquet comepitition was held on Thursday with the following results:-

BATTLE FOR FOURS DECIDED

The Southern Cross Bowls Club held the final of their Mixed Fours competition last week. Wayne Foster, Cita Weier, Clark Davidson and Pat Walker played Dave Scotney, Sophia Holland, Gordon Assay and Brett Patrick.

The green was running beautifully, and it was a great game with all players stepping up with some excellent shots. Unfortunately Dave’s team ran out of ammunition and Wayne’s guns dominated to blast their way to a convincing victory. Congratulations to all.

While the guns were fighting out the Mixed fours on the social scene Team Jools with Barry Heffernan, Geoff Davis and Julie Buse got the chocolates in their game against Barry Frame, Al Buse and Kim Hankinson.

The Men’s Committee and Management Committee date has been changed to today, Thursday 8 June at 2pm and 2.30pm respectively.

There will be Social Bowls at the Cross this weekend starting at 1pm. If you would like a game please be at the club by 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join the fun.

HOME RESULTS AT THE SUMMIT

There was plenty happening on the green at the Summit Bowls Club last Saturday with the District Singles championship in full swing. While the Singles games drew plenty of attention there were also three games of social bowls played.

Maree Keegan, Eddie Zanatta and Brian Wilmot combined to score a 12-8 win over Pam Moore, Keith Mungall and Tony Schubert.

Mary Zanatta and Ray Spiller had a comfortable win over Margaret Harvey and Phil Davis. The score 18- 9. On an adjacent green Brian Brown and Adrian Jackson defeated Rod Crome and Carl Sutherland 19-17.

After the excitement of the District Singles last weekend the upcoming programme at the Summit looks like this:-

BUSY WEEK AT CLIFTON

A busy week on the green at the Clifton Bowls club. On Wednesday (24/5) the club held their Mid-Week Fours comepitition which was kindly sponsored by Keith Muller, Gordon Jago, Dave Smith and John Keleher.

Taking the overall honours was the team of B Lindemayer, C Kearney, G Lewis and R Scurr. They scored a comprehensive 28-9 win over G Knights, P Mole, L Collie and D Hughes in the opening round. They then backed that up another good with a win over S Tweedie, B Jones, N Short and M Short. The score 18-5.

The team of D Wright, M Tickle, C Theodosis and L Bartz were runner’s up.

They opened the day with a 22-10 win over J Cochrane, F Ruhle, G Horne and L Harvey.

In round two they defeated R Chicken, K Weier, G Ticehurst and D Hamblin 15-12.

The last round winners were J Torrisi, M Skaines, D Scotney and K Hankinson. They scored a 17-10 win over K Morris, D Kehl, L Smith and R Kehl.

Last Saturday the Clifton Club hosted a successful Open Singles Tournament.

The winner of the event was Marty Scott. The runner up Southern Cross bowler Matt Shepherd.

WARWICK SS TRIPLES FINALISTS DECIDED

Bowlers from the Warwick Bowls Club played the semi-Final of the Self Selected Triples on Saturday.

Ray Southee, John Ruhle and Max Holder proved too strong for Peter Guy, Jim Rickard and Russell Bean in a tough comepitition. Bean’s team fought hard but their opposition, skipped by Max Holder, played well and scored a 29-11 win.

In a closer game Pamela Kerr, Brian Black and Craig Thurgate scored a 20-17 win over Trish Owens, Phil Wagner and Trevor Wright. Thurgate’s team held a 10-6 win on the 11th end. Trevor’s team obviously buoyed by the afternoon team break fought back to take a 17-14 lead into the final end. Their opponents knuckled down holding six shots on the 21st end to score a gritty 29-17 win.

The winners of each semi-final will play in the final this Saturday, 10th June. Ray Southee, John Ruhle and Max Holder V Pamela Kerr, Brian Black and Craig Thurgate

While Saturday’s semi-finals were in play there was also a social game played. Michael Dungey and Bryan Wright defeated Nat Kumseewad and Ken Hayes 22-8.

GOOD ROLL UP FOR MONTHLY TRIPLES

12 teams were on the green at the Warwick East Bowls club last Thursday for the monthly triples competition.

The winners were Ed Diery, Ralph Tate and John Harslett. The Runners-up were Pat Gainey, Peter Klowss and Barry Ziebel.

Last Saturday there were mixed social bowls played. No overall winners were declared. The attempt at the jackpot was unsuccessful.

There will be mixed social bowls on again this coming Saturday, with play starting at 1 pm.

Nominations are now being called for the club’s self-selected triples competition. Please record your team on the noticeboard. If you are not in a team and would like to participate, please advise Steve Ford.

The club’s monthly pairs day is scheduled for Thursday 22 June.

A reminder that the club’s carnival which was postponed in March is being held on Sunday 25 June.

Member are reminded if wish to buy a club shirt or jacket, please add your name to the list on the noticeboard.

MIX OF SOCIAL AND COMPETITION AT STANTHORPE CLUB

There were two games of social bowls played at the Stanthorpe Bowls club on Wednesday (31/5).

One game of the Club Triples championship game was also played.

Dot Rankin and Toby Robinson scored a 17-15 win over Margaret Harvey and Wendy Hurnall.

On the adjacent rink, Barry Murphy and Brian Brown scored a runaway win over Ray Weavers and Greg Hammond. The score 24-6.

Conditions were ideal for the two games played on Saturday. Helen Jones, Barry Murphy and Rocky Thompson defeated Amanda Jeffs, Dot Rankin and Greg Hammond 16 -11.

In the second game Toby Robinson and Len Girgenti scored a convincing 22-11 win over Tammy Robinson and Brian Brown.

In the final game of the round robin Club Triples ,Tammy Robinson, Len Girgenti (sub) and David Rose had a one shot win over Robyn Rose, Rocky Thompson and Gary Trevena after scores were locked at 11 all coming into the last end however the team Skipped by Rose held one shot and won the game 12-11.

Congratulations to David Rose and his team who were the eventual winners of this year’s competition. The team was undefeated in the comepitition.

The Club Fours championship for this year will be held this Saturday June 10 commencing at 9.30am.

CONDITIONS CHALLENGE SHOOTERS

The Clifton Benchrest Shooting club held their monthly shoot on the Laurie Bow Rifle Range on Sunday 21 May. Conditions were less than ideal with chilly gusty winds making the rimfire shoot much more challenging. Some shooters revel in the challenge while others find it frustrating as they try for consistent results. Despite the conditions all participants enjoyed the social friendly comepitition.

Gary Manteit showed his experience as he brushed aside the conditions to win the Men’s Rimfire with a score of 569.10. He also took out two of the three Best Cards of the Day in RBA (227.3/250.25) and Rabbit and Crow (146.2/150.15). To wrap a successful day he also won the seniors Centrefire (.5740) and had the smallest group (.246).

Luke Steffen finished collected a second place in the Seniors Centrefire (.5838). hele Manteit finished in third place with.6644.

Don Doro placed second in the Men’s Rimfire (560.11). Hot on his heels was Anthony Bowe (559.13).

Vincent Alberry scored 493.6 to win the Factory Rimfire. In second place was Gregg Blatchly with 446.

Hele Manteit won the Women’s Open Rimfire. Her score 556.11. Margaret Sullivan finished in second place. Her score 446.2.

The Junior Rimfire was won by Cooper Steffen (550.11) ahead of Rebekah Robinson (505.4).

This Saturday (10/6) the club is holding the mid-year Pistol competition. There will be plenty of prizes on offer and a delicious sausage sizzle for everyone to enjoy.

A handcrafted pen featuring a Winchester Rifle pocket clip and bolt action activated is the prize for the highest score of the day.

The action begins at 8:30am for .22lr and 9am for larger calibres.

All events should wrap up by 11am. Everyone is welcome but please text all bookings to 0473 193 841 by Thursday 8 June.
