Ancestry stretches back to Kilkenny Castle in Ireland

At our last meeting Trevor Butler gave us a talk on his ancestry.

He is extremely proud to have connections back to Kilkenny Castle in Ireland, where the Butler Family lived for over 550 years. It has stood for over 800 years and was originally built as a symbol and reality of Norman control in the area.

It symbolised the fortunes of one of the most powerful Irish families, the Butlers of Ormonde.

Kim Cadman was our guest speaker and gave us an insight of how Carer Gateway, an Australian Government initiative, can connect unpaid carers with local services and supports.

Services available include Carer Support Planning, Counselling, In-person Peer Support, Facilitated Coaching, Carer Directed Support and Emergency Respite. For more information please phone 1800 422 737 or check out carergateway.gov.au.

A lovely barbecue was held at the Anglican Church Hall, where an afternoon of good chat took place. Our Mid Winter Feast will be held on 18 July at Granite Belt Brewery.

Please get your money into the bank as reservations close on Monday 3 July.

A good roll up of members is expected at the next meeting, on 27 June, where two Councillors will be present to hand over the laptop purchased from the grant that was received.
