The Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunal says it’s not too late for people to have their say on councillor remuneration.
The Tribunal Chairperson Adrian Bloomfield said each year the independent Tribunal sets the categories and pay scales for all Queensland local governments (with the exception of Brisbane City Council).
“The Tribunal is about to commence the process of reviewing the remuneration levels for local government councillors which will apply from January 2012,” Mr Bloomfield said.
“These new rates will also apply to councillors elected in March 2012.
“In carrying out its functions, the Tribunal consults widely and provides the opportunity for councils, councillors, interest groups and members of the public to raise matters they would like the Tribunal to give special consideration to when making its annual determination.
“I urge anyone who would like to have a say on the matter to make a written submission before Friday, 2 September 2011.”
More information on how to make a submission can be found at www.dlgp.qld.gov.au/lgrdt .
Submissions can be emailed to enquiries@remunerationtribunal.qld.gov.au or mailed to:
Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunal
PO Box 15009
City East Qld 4002
Submissions close at 5pm on Friday, September 2, 2011.
