Poultry success

Despite the wet weather, Stanthorpe Poultry Club had a successful auction recently.
“Visitor numbers were up on the previous year, with 137 bidders registered; bidding was keen for quality stock,” secretary Lyn Spencer said.
She said they had lots of support from local bidders as well as buyers from as far south as Armidale, Lismore, Kyogle and even some from Brisbane.
President Luke Hancock would like to thank everyone who attended the event.
Bruce and Chris Haslingden of Ballandean were delighted to get the top bid of the day of $200 for a quad of Welsummers.
A trio of Lavender Cuckoo Pekin Bantams drew the next best price of $185.
The raffle for the chicken carry box donated by Peter Smith was won by Maree Cziez and the chicken feeder donated by CRT Stanthorpe was won by Karen Dwyer.
A number of people joined the club on the day, including Michael Van De Sande from just over the border, who is interested in learning the art of showing his birds. Michael’s favourite breeds are Silkies and Pekins.
