Movers, shakers wanted for dance classes

The spring season gives extra reason for youth in Tenterfield to jump up and dance.
Wintersong Carnival organisers are hosting two days of dance workshops for 12- 24-year-olds at Memorial Hall on Monday and Wednesday.
Anyone in their teens to 20s is invited to step up and sign on for one or two action packed sessions. Bring your friends for a full day of fun for just $20.
Monday’s dance parade is a good introductory session and promises to get young people literally dancing in the street.
Local dance star Tracey Hayne will lead the jazzy team movement routines, designed to build fitness, confidence and style.  Stacey was recently selected for a Dance Force Queensland team to tour the USA in 2012, where she will perform for 11 days in the Disney Street parade.
“Stacey’s know-how will be a great help for the Wintersong Carnival parade in June next year,” organiser Gail Galloway said.
“Wintersong is committed to developing youth talent and performance opportunities in Tenterfield and, given the success of youth performers at the Bingara Regional Showcase recently, these efforts are yielding real results,” she said.
This dance project is a continuation of the Wintersong and Dance Circus venture that started earlier this year.
Working with Youth and Family Support Service, it is funded by ArtStart (Youth Arts & Skills) through Arts North West Regional Development Board.
The Wednesday workshop will focus on dance for show. Participants will learn more high kicking moves, a touch tap and cabaret.
It will end with an opportunity to be in the spotlight on stage at the School of Arts.
Wintersong organisers say they will be on the lookout for talent for their 2012 Peter Allen Tribute concert 2012.
The classes cater for both experienced dancers and first-time novices. Each session runs from 10am to 4pm.
The cost is $20 per day or $15 for Wintersong members. To book, phone (02) 6736 1305.
Organisers wish to thank the Benevolent Society, Westlawn Finance, Tenterfield Shire and Tenterfield High School for their support of this project. The Artstart Program is funded by the Minister for Education and Training and administered by the NSW Department of Education.
