Scott calls on rain affected areas to share concerns

With heavy rain falling across southern Queensland, Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott is urging communities across the electorate to speak up and share their concerns of possible flooding in the region.
Mr Scott said it was important that he was aware of any communities or properties, which were experiencing any flooding due to the recent rain.
“Throughout this heavy rainfall event, the national and state media have focused on flooding in towns and cities in the south-east corner,” he said.
“More often than not, the smaller communities in rural and regional Queensland are experiencing a similar event but their stories are not being told on the nightly news.
“I certainly welcome the rain and I recognise the resilience of people across the electorate, but as the Federal Member I need to be across any issues that may need to be addressed by the Federal Government.”
Mr Scott said he had already spoken to the Minister for Human Services in relation to flooding in the Maranoa electorate.
“Brendan O’Connor, the Minister for Human Services, oversees Centrelink which co-ordinate payments for residents and businesses adversely affected by natural disasters,” he said.
“In the event of severe flooding across the Maranoa electorate such as the flooding experienced through 2010 and early 2011, I would expect the same government assistance to be made available for residents and businesses.”
People wishing to share their concerns can contact Mr Scott’s office in Roma on 1300 787 299 or in Dalby on 1300 301 964 for the cost of a local call.
