Dirt Squirts, fireworks and bucking bulls

A passing glance in the window of Allora’s True Value Hardware of late highlights a “Pocket Rocket” racer, the same as those that will be put through their paces in the inaugural mini motorcycle “Dirt Squirt Bike” race at 5.30pm as part of the Allora Show Saturday night entertainment.
The mini motorcycle on display is actually the first prize for the novel race, generously sponsored by Beetle and Sue Wakeford.
Tomorrow from 7.30pm you will be enthralled by the action of rodeo champion Scott Keogh’s Invitation Open Bull Ride.
The handpicked 30 riders will compete for a first prize of $1500 plus a flight to the USA, major sponsors being Denny’s Engineering and Welding, Flight Centre Warwick, Black Toyota Warwick and the Allora Show Society.
All in attendance can enjoy musical entertainment on the night, a licensed bar as well as the excitement provided by the junior bull riders, steer riders, poddy riders and bareback riders.
The Allora Show gates open at 6am tomorrow, with pavilion entries to be in by 8.30am.
Judging starts at 9am, as does the pony club events and ring events that will continue throughout the show.
Prime cattle judging starts at 10am tomorrow and the pavilion opens at 11am; the public are welcome to view the exhibits from that time on Friday and throughout Saturday.
The Prime Cattle Sale gets under way at 1pm tomorrow, while some of the attractions on Saturday include Mason’s Magic Show, an animal nursery, the 2012 Australian Year of the Farmer National Roadshow and the Baillie Boys Model Circus Exhibition.
Saturday has the grounds open at 6am, show jumping from 7.30am and ring events throughout the day.
The pavilion will open at 8.30am before judges get down to the task of judging the stud beef, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, and poultry with a cat display also a feature of the morning.
Allora’s Lyn-D-Jo Boutique will conduct a fashion parade beside the pavilion at 3pm, the State Ute Muster will also be judged and Dreamtime Reptiles will offer an opportunity for a picture with a python or crocodile.
The crown for the “Almost Anything Goes” competition will be decided about 6.30pm, followed by the fireworks display and one of the evening’s feature events, the Demolition Derby.
It wouldn’t be the show without the games, rides, challenges, and prizes of sideshow alley, all with the ever familiar show anthem, “Get ‘em while they’re hot, the hot and tasty dagwood dog” echoing in the background.
