Flying start for new club

The new Rose City Warwick Probus Club is off to a flying start, with a membership of 60 foundation members.
The accreditation meeting was held at the Slade Campus dining room on Wednesday, May 23.
The club was jointly sponsored by both the Rotary Club of Warwick and the Rotary Club of Warwick Sunrise.
Both Rotary presidents, Lewis von Stieglitz and Barbara Lee, were present.
Fifty-four members and guests attended a luncheon following the meeting catered for by Kel Williamson.
Douglas Geekie (Rotary District 9640 Probus chairman) attended and presented the Probus South Pacific Accreditation Cert-ificate to president June Sawyer.
Tremendous support has been forthcoming from both Rotary clubs to ensure the new club gets off to a sound beginning.
The president was sashed with the Collar and Chain by Barbara Lee and Lewis von Stieglitz presented the club with a chairman’s gong; and the members’ name badges were presented to the club by Lewis on behalf of the Rotary Club of Warwick.
Mr Don Thomasson (QPF Australia) has generously donated stationery to the club and the Warwick Credit Union has provided valuable banking services, as well as subsidising the cost of the club’s newsletter for a period of six months.
Members commented as they left the lunch how much they enjoyed the day.
Probus is a club for retired and semi-retired people, where they can enjoy themselves at meetings, social and travel events in a friendly, sociable and relaxed atmosphere.
With more than 2500 retired and semi-retired persons living in Warwick and district, there was a need to provide an adequate number of clubs to allow a majority of these persons to enjoy themselves.
Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Don on (07) 4661 3151 or June on (07) 4661 7348.
